A Different Type of Professional Development

  • Behavior coaching with Spero focuses on teachers’ management skills needed to address specific behavioral concerns in their classrooms. Most professional development is focused on skills that may or may not be relevant to teachers’ current needs. Spero’s coaching is focused on building skills to address immediate needs while also improving prevention and intervention skills to address future behavior issues.

  • Behavior coaching with Spero can be in person, virtually (e.g., Zoom, Google Meet), or by phone.

During PLCs, grade-level meetings, planning periods, before/after school, and/or faculty meetings are examples of how teachers have received behavioral coaching.

  • All coaching focuses on helping teachers identify behaviors of concerns in which they do not have the skillset to address effectively. This is followed by identifying potential strategies that could be used for the behavior within the context and training the teachers how and when to employ the strategy. All strategies are research-based and have been shown to change challenging behaviors.

  • Challenging student behavior has been a top reason for teachers to leave the field for the past 50 years.

Many teachers enter the field without the skills needed to address challenging behaviors. Behavior coaching can provide the instruction on new skills, as well as the needed performance feedback to hone and maintain the skill.

  • Behavior coaching is for general and special education teachers. It can be for administrators and support personnel.

Dr. Allan Allday has 20 years of experience teaching adults, as a teacher educator and behavior analyst educator, how to understand and implement behavior strategies.

School Administrators

Schools and teachers face many challenges today, with student behavior being one of the biggest. In the past four years, I have heard dozens of teachers exclaim that “student behavior is more challenging than it used to be.” These teachers have reported an increase in a variety of undesirable school behaviors, as well as a decrease in overall academic engagement. This combination creates frustration for both teacher and student. Challenging student behavior is one of the leading factors for teachers to reach the end of their rope (i.e., teacher burnout). Teachers are in desperate need of support when working with students with challenging behaviors.

All classes and sessions are designed to provide participants with strategies they can implement the next day. These strategies can help with reducing undesirable behaviors, increasing desired behaviors, and giving you the hope you need to keep going.
